Shura Cherkassky ( 1909 - 1995 ) was born in Odessa, Ukraine. His family fled to the United States due to the Russian Revolution and he then studied under Josef Hoffman. Cherkassky's repertoire ranged from Bach, Rameau to Chopin, and Stravinsky. His 70 year career led many consider him to be the last great Romantic Pianist of the 20th century.
