Karl Engel ( 1923 - 2006 ) was born in Birsfelden, Switzerland. He studied at the Basel conservatory and subsequently with Alfred Cortot. His recording works include composers Mozart, Schumann and his collaborations include those with artists Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Hermann Prey.
