Michael Ponti ( 1937 ) was born in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. He studied with Gilmour McDonald who himself was a pupil of Leopold Godowsky. Ponti won the 1964 Busoni competition which catapulted his career. Under the Vox label he recorded many neglected works by composers such as Bronsart, Moszkowski, Moscheles and Thalberg.
