Myra Hess ( 1890 - 1965 ) was born in London, England. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and subsequently the Royal Academy of Music. After the second world war, she collaborated with conductors Bruno Walter and Arturo Toscanini. Her discography includes works by Beethoven, Bach, Schumann and Mozart. She is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.
