Maurizio Pollini ( 1942 - 2024 ) was born in Milan, Italy. He studied at the Milan Conservatory. He won the 1960 Chopin competition which gave his name prominence. He would sign with Deutche Grammophon where he became acclaimed for his recordings of more modern composers such as Stravinsky, Bartok and Webern. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.
