Irina Zaritzkaya ( 1939 - 2001 ) was born in Kiev, Ukraine. She studied at the Moscow Conservatory with established pianists Yakov Flier and Yakov Zak. She finished runner up to Maurizio Pollini in the 1960 Chopin competition. She is best known for her recording of the Chopin Preludes, which was released on the Naxos label.
