Stefan Askenase ( 1896 - 1985 ) was born in Lemberg, Austria. His studied included the Ludwig Marek School of music and eventually with Emil von Sauer at the Vienna Academy of Music. He would subsequently teach at the Brussels Conservatory of Music. He is best known for his Chopin recordings for Deutsche Grammophon in the early 1950s.
