Byron Janis ( 1928 - 2024 ) was born in McKeesport, Pennslyvania. As a teenager he was chosen by Vladimir Horowitz to be his first pupil. Studies with him lead him to be a promising pianist and he signed with RCA at a record breaking mere 18 years of age. Through RCA he recorded Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Liszt, Prokofiev among others. Unfortunately, Arthritis in his hands and wrists plagued a large portion of his career.
