Murray Perahia ( 1947 ) was born in New York City, New York. He is well known for what many find to be the definative recordings of the Mozart Concertos. He recorded all of them with him as pianist, and himself conducting the English Chamber Orchestra. In addition his recordings of Mendelssohn and Bach have much acclaim. Reoccuring hand injuries have kept him away from performing, but is regarded as one of the Great Pianists of the 20th Century.
