John Ogdon ( 1937 - 1989 ) was born in Nottinghamshire, England. Ogdon was a natural virtuoso as he was able to play most difficult works with relative ease. He co-won the 1962 Tchaikovsky Competition which made him an international star and launched his career. Ogdon's prodigious talent as a sight reader led him to record the challenging and underappreciated works of Busoni, Alkan and Sorabji. As a composer recorded his own Piano Concerto and Piano Sonatas.
