Leopold Godowsky ( 1870 - 1938 ) was born in Žasliai, Lithuania. He studied at Berlin's Königliche Hochschule für Musik. He was a composer and this includes several original works and transcriptions. He is best known for his 53 Studies on Chopin's Études. His discography includes works by Chopin and Liszt.
