Simon Barere ( 1896 - 1951 ) was born in Odessa, Russia. He studied under Felix Blumenfeld and was considered to be quite the virtuoso. He championed the works of Liszt, Chopin and Rachmaninov and gave many recitals at Carnegie Hall. During a performance at the hall, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died shortly after.
