Alfred Brendel ( 1931 ) was born in Loucna nad Desnou, Czech Republic. Aside from some master classes from Edwin Fischer and Eduard Steuermann, Brendel was mostly self taught. He is well known for his Beethoven Piano Sonata cycle and his intepretations of Mozart, Schubert and Liszt.
