His prolific career included recordings under EMI, DG, Melodiya and Philips. He had an extremely vast repertoire and played composers from Bach to Szymanowski. Richter only played works that he enjoyed which included obscure ones such as Janacek's Concertino and Franck's Les Djinns. As a chamber musician Richter performed works with Kagan, Rostropovich and Fischer-Dieskau. He is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.
