Vladimir Ovchinikov ( 1958 ) was born in Belebey, Bashkir ASSR. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Aleksey Nasedkin and would subsequently become a professor there. He won join 2nd in the 1982 Tchaikovsky competition and first in the 1987 Leeds competition. This combination launched his career. He went on to record works by Mussorgsky, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.
