Lazar Berman ( 1930 - 2005 ) was born in Leningrad, USSR. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory and subsequently the Moscow Conservatory with Alexander Goldenweiser. He would go on to record works by Liszt, Beethoven, Rachmaninov and others to critical acclaim.
